How do I plan my exit without my partners/shareholders/directors knowing

Exiting - The Four Ds of exiting a business

  • The Four D’s are Death, Disability, Divorce and Departure.

  • Death or Disability, the probability is 14%.

  • The probability that a male aged 30 will die before age 65 is 1 in 7 or 14 %.

  • The probability that in a company with two shareholders at least one will die or become disabled before age 65

The statistics for women are not great either!

Divorce.
No we are not talking about the life partner here. Divorce in this case is one or more of the business owners/partners deciding to move on and wanting their stake money, profit and possibly a slice of goodwill out of the business.

Departure.
This is a planned event regardless of whether it involves the sale of the business or is some form of succession.
This is what all business owners should be planning for – a departure and a planned departure on known terms.
